Cable-Wire systems are made from 316 stainless steel good for both Exterior or Interior projects and are made with 19 treads spun together tightly. Connectors are made for either metal or wood posts - the connectors are the most costly component so when planning your project use as many pass-thru holes as posible without needing a connector. Most systems can span upto 70 feet. Tensioning Connectors can be on one side or both sides of the cable run.

Some well known Metal cable systems are RailFX, Atlantis Spectrum, DekPro's Prestige and AFCO.  Wood or Composite based cable systems require better tensioning because of metal-wood stress. For instance RailEasy's Tensioner is extra long allowing seasonal tightening of the cable between hot-cold climates. Another consideration is the type of Wood used. Pressure Treated is popular as is Cedar a softer wood. When using a soft wood or composite longer connectors are required to extend the screw length.

Metal Post systems are 2-3 times more expensive than Wood based cable systems.

Cable Wire systems offer the best transparency for beautiful views and railing transparency.
